A hand-built supercharged V8 with 700+ horsepower makes the new Shelby GT500 the most powerful street-legal Ford ever produced. Stepping up as Ford's answer to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with it's 650 hp, the 6th generation Ford Mustang GT500 will complete a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds, and storm all the way down the quarter mile drag in under 11 seconds.
The GT500 features performance technology handed down from the Ford GT and Mustang GT4 race car, including a Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch transmission from the GT that has line-lock and launch control capabilities whilst being able to shift gears in under 100 milliseconds. Aero enhancements have also been taken from Ford's racing programs, with the GT500 deploying a design to increase downforce and optimise thermal management. The real star of the show is the 5.2L V8 which has a 2.65L roots-type supercharger fitted upside down and placed inside the V of the engine.
